The Cambria workers are on strike for year-round health insurance, reasonable workload, and other protections. Part of a citywide 26-hotel strike that began in September, the Cambria is the only remaining Chicago hotel on strike.
The hotel is demanding that housekeepers – who already work in pain – clean more rooms. None of the other 25 hotels that settled the strike increased housekeeping workload.
100% of Cambria housekeepers surveyed by UNITE HERE Local 1 report experiencing pain from lifting mattresses, pushing supply carts or from the repetitive motions associated with cleaning hotel rooms.
